![]() ![]() The sorority has more than 500 chapters in the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, South Korea, U.S. Sigma Gamma Rho has welcomed more than 100,000 collegiate and professional women from every profession. ![]() Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and sustained a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. As president of the Philo Affiliate, my goal is to build the affiliate’s membership while getting more involved in the community so we see greater progress in the communities in which we reside. I am a mother, grandmother and currently Program Director for Kingly Community Resource Center. Joining the Gamma Pi Sigma Philo Affiliate in 2018 was only a step in the right direction as community service, education and sisterhood are all very near and dear to my heart. National projects such as the March of Dimes campaign, Youth Symposium and Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness. The affiliate is committed to working with the Gamma Pi Sigma Alumnae chapter, Undergraduates, Rhoers and Rhosebuds in support of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. We stand firm in our desire to make an impact in our local community through our on-going service projects, supporting other community events, volunteering our time and monetary donations. As a “friend” to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., we are 100% committed to and supportive of all things Sigma Gamma Rho. On Septemthe Gamma Pi Sigma Chapter will celebrate 10 years of service to the Sorority, Gamma Pi Sigma Alumnae Chapter and the Greater Milwaukee community. The charter members were Wanda Baylis, Tamara Walker, Charlie Morris, Cassandra Perrine, Chandra Morris, Frances Jackson, Joyce Nelson, Bertha Lipsey, and Katrilla Cottingham. Gamma Pi Sigma Alumnae Chapter members, Moya Baylis and Lacritia Spence took the initial charge to charter the first a Philo Affiliate in WI and the Gamma Pi Sigma Philo Affiliate of Milwaukee, WI was charted on September 26, 2006. to enhance the quality of life within every community. The Philos have contributed countless hours of community service and thousands of dollars to aid with the aim of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. In 1980, the Philos were organized on a national level and have grown to represent hundreds of women organized on a regional level as well. ![]() These women were organized into auxiliaries that had various names until 1954 when the sorority officially approved the organized affiliate group and accepted the name of "Philo"(meaning Friend) as their official name. Since its inception, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.has promoted unity among women and for years many alumnae chapters worked with individuals who were not members of Greek-lettered organizations. ![]()
